Arsenal have most to gain from biggest bargain of transfer window

The vibes coming out of Arsenal may well be that Bacary Sagna will sign an extension to his contract that is up in the summer, but that doesn’t mean the Gunners should turn down the chance to sign the biggest bargain of the January transfer window.

Dimitar Berbatov’s odds are 2/1 to sign for Arsenal in January and even though this could prove an absolute snip for a fee in the region of £2m, the player in question is French defender Sebastien Corchia.

Sochaux are languishing second-bottom in Ligue 1, but that is not preventing lots of interest in their better players, most notably Corchia, who is the only ever present in their squad this season.

Reports suggest it would only take €3.5m to recruit the 23-year-old and given he possesses the necessary balance of defensive and attacking talents that are expected of modern-day full-backs, he has the attributes to be starring for a bigger club.

Interest is certainly extensive for his signature, with Lille, Marseille, Roma and Borussia Monchengladbach known, while a switch to PSG has also been touted, given the injury to their regular right-back Christophe Jallet.

It is in the tackling department when Corchia’s stats are in a league of their own, as he won 98 per cent of the first 50 tackles he attempted this season.

Meanwhile, he has also created more chances than any of his Sochaux teammates this season, bettering Sagna’s tally in the process, alongside making more defensive interceptions, winning more free-kicks and completing more crosses per game.

However, it is Berbatov that will get the chance to enhance his credentials of joining Arsenal next, with Fulham being the next Premier League visitors to the Emirates.

Berbatov has scored in three of his last four Fulham appearances and is 4/1 in the betting to score in the 90 minutes against Arsenal.
