Andujar to bring big-hitting Pole back to earth at Aussie Open

Published:

For the players who’ve successfully avoided their potential banana skin first-round ties, or spent enough time safely covered under enough shade not to keel over in the heat, the second round of the Australian Open awaits.

And, as is becoming customary with us here on the new.ladbrokes editorial team, we’ve strived to find the best bet from both the men’s and women’s side of the draw for the third day of action.

Pablo Andujar to beat Jerzy Janowicz @ 5/2

Since 23-year-old Pole Janowicz shot to prominence at last year’s Wimbledon, where he reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by eventual winner Andy Murray, the big-serving 20th seed has struggled to adapt to life on the hard courts.

He’s only won three times on the surface since the SW19 outing, a run that spans seven matches, and made extremely hard work of his opening-round match against Jordan Thompson, which went to five sets.

Pablo Andujar has never been past the second round of this tournament, but has a good chance here against an out-of-sorts seed.

Madison Keys to win 2-0 over Jie Zheng @ 1/1

Matches between 18-year-old Madison Keys and Jie Zheng haven’t tended to be too lengthy over the course of their careers, another short one is expected.

The 4/5 on the pair playing out a match that contains less than 20.5 games looks appealing considering they’ve never seen a contest go north of 16 in their three meetings, but the greater value on the American winning in straight sets is preferred.

Keys has toppled her Chinese rival without reply in two of those three matches, both of which came as recently as last year and on this same surface, and should recover from her three-set first round to record yet another 2-0 scoreline over Zheng here.
