Where next for ousted Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas?

Andre Villas-Boas’ departure from White Hart Lane may have brought the curtain down on his career in the Premier League, but the 36-year-old is likely to remain hot property among those teams struggling for form on the continent.

Tottenham’s middling start to the campaign has left them five points off fourth in the table with the north London club now 7/2 to finish in one of the coveted Champions League qualification places – something which was seen as a minimum target for AVB at the start of the season.

But while the former Porto man failed to meet Daniel Levy’s expectations, he has still fared better than Miroslav Djukic during his six-month reign at Valencia.

Sacked by Los Che just hours after Spurs’ announcement concerning Villas-Boas, the Spanish side sit 10 points off fourth in La Liga and are a distant 2000/1 to be crowned champions.

While such a target is undoubtedly beyond them, Els Taronja remain very much in the mix for Europa League glory and can be backed to pick up the trophy at 25/1.

Those odds could look particularly handsome should the Spaniards to turn to AVB as their next manager with the Portuguese boss first making his name in that very competition with Porto back in 2011.

That season Villas-Boas enjoyed an unprecedented treble of league, cup and Europa League success with the Lisbon giants and it’s that record that could tempt Los Che into an appointment in the hope of securing Champions League qualification for next season and a piece of silverware.

However, Valencia could yet face competition for the former Chelsea man’s services with AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri edging ever closer to the San Siro exit.

A 2-2 draw with high-flying Roma may have been commendable but with the Rossoneri playing catch-up and 10th in the table, the club’s hierarchy are losing patience.

Already some 16 points off third-placed Napoli, Milan’s best chance of staying in the Champions League may actually be by winning it, with Italy’s most successful team in the competition quoted at 66/1 to claim a shock victory.

A tricky tie with Atletico Madrid awaits, but the presence of AVB could provide the catalyst required to kick-start their campaign – something which will rely on the results recorded by Allegri in the coming weeks.

And then there is Porto. Out of the Champions League and three points behind resurgent rivals Sporting Lisbon, fans continue to pine for the return of Villas-Boas, with many believing he has unfinished business at the club.

Current manager Paulo Fonseca remains far from a popular choice and with Porto still in the hunt for glory in the Europa League  and on at 16/1 to win it would be somehow fitting for AVB to return and lead them to another treble against all the odds.

Despite failing in the Premier League, Tottenham’s loss could yet be Europe’s gain.
