Top Premier League clubs join race for German star

With the January transfer window now just days away from opening it looks as though the Premier League’s top clubs are preparing to do battle for one of the hottest talents to emerge from Germany for many years.

Hoffenheim youngster Kevin Volland is reportedly wanted by England’s biggest sides, with Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea all registering an interest in the winger, who at just 21 has established a reputation for being on the most exciting players the Bundesliga has produced for some time.

It is thought that Tottenham Hotspur, however, are the team that have monitored Volland most closely and could be tempted to make a move for the Germany Under-21 international, who is rated at around £12million and is contracted to the German side until 2017.

A left footed player that more often than not operates on the right hand side for his club, Volland is a flair player blessed with lightning quick pace and has excellent dribbling skills.

Volland has struck seven goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances so far this term and boasts 33 career goals during his time with Hoffenheim and 1860 Munich. He has also hit seven goals in 14 games for the German U-21 and looks destined to make the step up into the full senior side at international level.

There is a groundswell of opinion that says Volland could even gatecrash his way into the Germany squad or the World Cup in Brazil next summer if his rate of progress is maintained – by which time he could well be playing his football in the Premier League.
