Three football investments Thomas Gravesen should consider

Published:

Thomas Gravesen excelled as a solid, if unspectacular, central midfielder who represented Denmark on 66 occasions, but since then the 37-year-old has taken an altogether different path.

Retiring from football five years ago, he set about taking a few more risks, with a series of investments in financial businesses across Europe.

The good news is that this gamble paid off, with Danish newspaper BT revealing that the player is now worth £82.61 million and has retired to Las Vegas alongside his model girlfriend Kamilla Persee.

While there, Gravesen will be indulging in his favourite pastime: gambling. And with that in mind we’ve come up with a treble that could see him make that personal fortune just that bit bigger at odds of over 13/1:

Everton to finish in the Top Six @ 13/8

A Toffees stalwart from 2000 to 2004, Gravesen played 141 games for the blue half of Merseyside during the early years of David Moyes’ reign.

He will have been heartened by their performances under new manager Roberto Martinez so far this term with Everton currently fifth and just three points off second place in the Premier League.

With 21 goals scored in their opening 13 matches and just one defeat to their name so far this season, provided on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku continues to fire, then the Dane could be tempted to back the Toffees for a top six finish.

Real Madrid to win La Liga @ 21/10

In 2004 the seemingly unthinkable happened – Los Blancos made a move to buy Blues man Thomas Gravesen for £2.5 million. Nearly 10 years on and another shock could be on the cards.

Earlier in the campaign, a 2-1 Clasico loss had seen Barcelona establish a six-point lead over Real Madrid. But after suffering back-to-back defeats, the Catalans are wobbling, with injuries to Lionel Messi and Victor Valdes taking their toll.

Los Merengues, meanwhile, are finding their rhythm, with record-signing Gareth Bale bagging a hat-trick last time out. As such, Gravesen may be tempted to back Carlo Ancelotti’s team to go all the way.

Celtic to win the Scottish Cup @ 4/5

The Bhoys already look home and dry in the SPFL, as reflected in the 1/1000 odds offered by Ladbrokes, but the former Hoops hero, who retired with a final season at Celtic Park, could be tempted to back them for silverware elsewhere.

With Neil Lennon’s team already out of Europe, fans will be hoping the team can redouble their efforts domestically, with the Scottish Cup a realistic target for the current holders.

They may face a tricky fifth-round home tie with Aberdeen, but given the depth and quality at the club’s disposal, getting on the tempting price offered for them to win this trophy now, could pay dividends in the long run.
