Susanna Reid heavily backed for Strictly Come Dancing title

| 16.12.2013

Newsreader Susanna Reid has proved that Strictly Come Dancing has as much to do with likeability as it does pure dancing ability, as she was once again saved from the dance-off by a swell of public support and now sees herself as favourite to lift the glitter ball trophy.

One punter based in Manchester was so convinced the BBC presenter is on for Strictly glory, they staked £10,000 on her doing the business during the televised semi final, at odds of 6/4 with Ladbrokes.

Aside from a stellar effort in week eight where she topped the scoring charts, Reid has continually scored lower than the three female contestants she’ll face in the unprecedented all-women finale.

Yet the 10/11 market leader, who has over 180,000 twitter followers, appears to be a firm favourite with the public and this could be the newsreader’s trump card.

Abbey Clancy is also proving a popular bet as the 11/4 second favourite as her and professional dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec wowed the judges with a score of 39 for their American Smooth.

The Liverpudlian is followed by Sophie Ellis-Bextor in the betting at 4/1, which leaves former long-term favourite Natalie Gumede to drift out to 8/1, as despite dancing beautifully again, the Corrie actor was demoted to the dance-off after the public had their say.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Susanna’s sizzling performances have made the headlines and punters are backing her in their droves to be crowned victorious. Natalie was the red-hot favourite for so long but we cannot give her away at the moment.”

She added: “If there’s going to be an upset the money suggests Abbey can take the title back home to Liverpool.”
