Saints @ Seahawks: Seattle will edge NFC clash

Published:

With both teams on course for the postseason it would seem there is little more than pride to play for as New Orleans (9-2) head to Seattle (10-1).

However, with the Saints knowing they have never won a playoff match as the away side, victory is a must for Sean Payton’s men at CenturyLink Field if they are to mount a serious challenge for the Super Bowl.

As it stands, the Seahawks are on course to secure home advantage for the NFC side of the playoffs by virtue of their conference-best record.

The Saints can give themselves a significant boost by leaving The Emerald City with matching 10-2 records, giving them a platform from which to progress for the final four games of the regular season.

Payton though, knows it will take an almighty effort from his charges to overturn a run that has seen the Seahawks win six games on the bounce.

Pete Carroll’s side are undefeated at home this term and therefore warrant their pricing as 3/11 favourites.

Those believing the Saints will rise to the occasion in an effort to have a better chance at avoiding a tricky road trip playoff schedule can back the upset at 9/5, but with a 3-2-0 road record this term an away win seem unlikely.

With a home win looking a strong possibility, many could be tempted by the handicap pricing, which sees the Saints move to 10/11 favourites with a 4.5-point head start, while the Seahawks price drifts to 20/23 at -4.5.

A victory  for Seattle will see them oust the Denver Broncos (10-2) as the team with the best record in the NFL so far, therefore snapping up  the 3/1 on a Seahawks Super Bowl win before the visit of New Orleans could prove a shrewd move.

The Broncos currently lead the Super Bowl betting at 11/4, while the Saints would surely shorten from their current price of 6/1 should they achieve the unexpected in The City of Flowers.
