Renewed Man United interest in Sneijder could land at 20/1

It’s a deal that had been shelved during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, but rumours suggest that David Moyes’ desperate search for some midfield spark will see Manchester United try and woo Wesley Sneijder to Old Trafford once more.

The great news for speculators is that thanks to Ladbrokes’ Man United transfer specials; they can currently get odds of 20/1 if the Dutchman does indeed put pen to paper in January.

It was no secret that Sneijder, fresh from his all-conquering treble-winning season at Inter and World Cup 2010 heroics for Netherlands, publicly rebuffed Ferguson’s strong advances in favour of a move to Galatasaray.

However, his and United’s present circumstances seem far more fertile to a potential deal being struck.

United’s need for a playmaker has reached epic proportions as they find themselves 13 points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal, where their hopes of holding on to the title have all but evaporated.

There is a refreshed urgency to bolster the midfield and someone with such stellar appeal as the Dutch number 10, fits the bill of a fan-appeasing transfer.

Other ticks in the plus column for a potential switch include Sneijder’s modest buy-out clause of a reported £13m and the fact he has recently switched his agent, Soren Lerby.

Although the 29-year-old is contracted to the Turkish champions until 2016 there is a general feeling that Sneijder has got itchy feet in Istanbul – where Galatasaray have given themselves a nine-point mountain to climb, behind fierce rivals Fenerbahce at the summit.

With Galatasaray involved in the crunchiest of crunch Champions Leagues against Juventus, things could yet hinge on whether or not the Turkish side are dumped out of the Champions League.
