QPR head up a midweek Championship treble

Published:

Queens Park Rangers can get their Championship title bid back on track with a win over Bournemouth – but Harry Redknapp’s side will still be trailing leaders Leicester and second-placed Burnley after the midweek Championship action.

That’s because all three sides have to be fancied to win their midweek fixtures in a treble that pays 5/1.

Rangers slipped three points behind the Foxes after losing 2-1 at struggling Doncaster at the same time Leicester were beating Millwall 3-0 at the King Power Stadium to climb to the top of the table, though QPR remain the 11/10 favourites to win the Championship, with Nigel Pearson’s side an 11/4 shot.

The pair sandwich Burnley after Sean Dyche’s men went down 2-1 at Huddersfield – but all three can make sure they stay ahead of the chasing pack by emerging victorious from eminently winnable games in midweek.

Leicester travel to Sheffield Wednesday and a quote of 10/11 is hardly a surprise given the Owls current predicament. Dave Jones is clinging to his job after just one win and no clean sheet in 16 games this term, and the Foxes, who have won six of their last seven, and keep Jones in the mire.

Burnley host Watford and the even money they pick up the points looks fair enough – the Clarets are unbeaten in eight home league games this season and mid-table Watford haven’t won in six, losing four times.

And despite the defeat to Doncaster, QPR should be trusted at 4/7 to continue their fine form at Loftus Road and complete the treble. Rangers have won seven and drew one of their eight home Championship games, keeping six clean sheets in the process. Eddie Howe’s side have won just once in eight away games, keeping a solitary clean sheet, and travel to west London without a win in six.
