Manchester United to target Baines, Herrera and Gundogan in January
Published:Manchester United look set to make up for lost time in the transfer market in a bid to propel them back into the title race with a triple swoop for Everton full-back Leighton Baines, Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera and Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan.
David Moyes was left frustrated by his new club’s transfer dealings last summer with Marouane Fellaini and Wilfried Zaha, a deal that was completed in January 2012, his only captures.
And with United nine points behind leaders Arsenal, Moyes is ready to give the defending champions, who are currently 9/1 with Ladbrokes to retain their Premier League crown, a boost in the transfer window.
Manchester United chiefs are preparing to back their boss with a spending spree starting with long-term target Leighton Baines.
The England international, currently out of action with a broken toe, has been top of Moyes’ wish-list ever since he swapped the Goodison Park dugout for Old Trafford.
Everton resisted the Red Devils’ advances in the summer, but with doubts remaining about Patrice Evra’s future United are ready to target the full-back again.
Also on the radar for the Manchester club is Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera, who was also a summer target.
With Fellaini flattering to deceive in a United shirt, Moyes is in desperate need of midfield reinforcements and is ready to make a renewed effort to sign the 24-year-old Spanish playmaker.
Another target is in-demand Borussia Dortmund star Gundogan, who has 18 months left on his contract at the Westfalenstadion.
BVB are desperate to tie the Turkish-born German international down to a new deal and with Real Madrid and Arsenal also interested, Manchester United, who are 11/4 to finish as the top club in the north-west of England, face a difficult task in securing the midfielder’s services.
