Liverpool eye Chelsea tormentor for Premier League title push

If reports leaking out of the rumour mill are to be believed, then their prime target once the new year’s sales begin is Basel’s Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah.
Brendan Rodgers is thought to have watched Salah during his recent appearance in the Champions League against Schalke and is keen to bring him to Merseyside in a deal worth £15m.
Salah has had his fair share of suitors in recent months, with Tottenham, Galatasaray and Monaco all keeping tabs on him but it is Liverpool, who are 2/9 to beat Cardiff in their next Premier League outing, who are favoured to seal his signature.
Bringing the Egyptian to Anfield would obviously aid their title push as the player is in supreme form, scoring four times for Basel in the Swiss league along with two strikes during the Champions League campaign, but his arrival would also have a negative effect on Chelsea.
The 21-year-old has been the Stamford Bridge club’s scourge during his career, scoring three times in four appearances against them, including in both Champions League outings this season when Basel did an unlikely double over Jose Mourinho’s side.
He also netted against Tottenham during the 2012/13 Europa League run so clearly enjoys playing English opposition, something Rodgers will hope continues should he successfully land his man.
Liverpool currently sit two points behind Arsenal in the race for Premier League supremacy but face a month without captain Gerrard, while second-top scorer Sturridge isn’t expected to see first team action again until the end of January with an ankle injury.
With Jose Enrique also taking up the physio’s time with a knee problem, expect Salah to be the first of many January Anfield arrivals.
