Jurgen Klopp is favourite to be Moyes’ Man United replacement

Published:

He’s only be in the job five minutes, but following a wave of pessimism in the wake of Manchester United’s fifth Premier League loss of the season, Ladbrokes are taking bets on who will replace David Moyes.

Sir Alex Ferguson is a surprise inclusion at 10/1 to make a sensational return to management at Old Trafford, though current Borussia Dortmund coach, Jurgen Klopp, has been installed as the early 6/1 favourite.

Klopp has been a revelation at Dortmund, where he has won two Bundesliga titles as well as guiding the German club to the Champions League final last season.

Behind Klopp, is his Bundesliga adversary Pep Guardiola at 8/1, though given the former Barcelona boss is still in his first season at Bayern Munich, this would represent a mammoth move for the Spaniard.

Jose Mourinho is also a 10/1 shot, while playing legends Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, who is still donning the boots at present, are 16/1 to take up the reins should Moyes depart Old Trafford.

United’s latest defeat to Newcastle has left the champions 12 points adrift of leaders Arsenal, down in ninth place and quoted at huge odds of 33/1 to retain their title.

Meanwhile, Moyes is also now just 5/2 to fail to see out the season with 8/1 the price he has left before Christmas day.

The firm are also taking the step of quoting a 16/1 price on United finishing in the second-half of the Premier League for the first time since its inception.

However, those with a little more faith in the Scot can still get odds of 6/5 that he turns things around and at least manages to guide United to a top-four berth.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We don’t think it’s premature to start taking bets on who will replace Moyes. At this stage Klopp is the favourite with Ferguson not dismissed either.”

He added: “Manchester United are now as likely to win the Premier League as England are to win the World Cup.”
