Hamilton to hammer Burnett at Alexandra Palace
Published:The second round at Alexandra Palace is in full swing and on day nine of the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship oche veterans Andy Hamilton and Robert Thornton, plus Belgian star Kim Huybrechts form the basis of a treble that pays just under 4/1.
Andy Hamilton will not be thrilled at meeting Richie Burnett in round two at the World Championship after losing twice on both occasions the pair have met in 2013.
The Prince of Wales came out on top at the Championship League in October and the UK Open in March but it would take a brave man to write off The Hammer on the Ally Pally stage.
Hamilton has reached the third round at the World Championship on seven of his nine appearances, not to mention going all the way to final in 2012 before losing to Adrian Lewis.
The Stokie thrower loves nothing more that performing on the big stage and that could spell trouble for Welshman Burnett.
So expect a repeat of their 2012 last 32 clash in north London where Hamilton won 4-1 – a 10/3 shot this time around – and back the 46-year-old to win with a -1.5 set handicap at 8/13.
Kim Huybrechts won the battle of the Belgian brothers after beating Ronny 3-1 to book his place in the second round at Alexandra Palace.
And it was an experience the 28-year-old didn’t enjoy: “’That was the most toughest game I have ever played in my life.
“Ronny was by far the better player – I got lucky but I don’t feel good. I was really nervous, I don’t think I have ever been this nervous. I can promise the next round will be 10 times better.”
His opponent in the next round is Englishman Ian White who has a decent record (2-2) when coming up against The Hurricane.
But the Belgian thrower can build on his first round experience and use it as a spring board to go deep into the tournament at the expense of Diamond White.
Beau Anderson upset the odds against former world No. 1 Colin Lloyd but it was no surprise to the Ladbrokes News team.
The Australian, who was part of our 5/1 treble on day five of the tournament, proved his worth on the big stage with the sudden death victory but his time in north London is now set to be cut short by Robert Thornton.
The Thorn has enjoyed his best season since joining the PDC circuit in 2009 and he will be determined to finish the year in fine style.
And with the Scottish dartist never progressing beyond the third round at the Ally Pally – in the last four tournaments he has been knocked out by eventual winners Phil Taylor or Adrian Lewis – he will be fully focused on putting right that wrong in his PDC career so far.
