Hamburg attacking midfielder latest youngster to tempt Arsenal

Not content with luring one of the best attacking midfielders in world football to the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal are taking a plunge back into the transfer market to tempt a wonderkid in the same position to join the club.

Mesut Ozil still has plenty of minutes left to log in his Arsenal career, but that hasn’t stopped the Gunners, who are 3/1 to beat Manchester City in their next Premier League assignment, from looking to nab their future “number 10”. In fact, rumour has it they are preparing to launch a January bid for highly-rated Hamburg midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.

At 19-years-old Calhanoglu will certainly be a player bought with the future in mind, a policy far more recognisable to Arsenal fans in recent years than the wads of cash spent on bringing Ozil to the club, but should be a rumour that unusually fills Arsenal fans with joy given the start the player has had to the season.

The German-born Turk is enjoying an extended run in the Hamburg first team currently, having started all of their last nine games. His play has attracted interest from both Liverpool and Galatasaray recently, but it is the north London club who are thought to be favourites for his signature and their track record for developing youth players which is perhaps helping them lead the race.

Much like Adnan Januzaj at Manchester United though, Calhanoglu could make an impact in Arsenal’s midfield right away should he decide to change clubs, with the player scoring four Bundesliga goals and laying on two for teammates in 14 appearances so far this season.

It seems the man capped once by Turkey already would fit perfectly into Arsenal’s fluid midfield too, having started matches at both the left-wing and striker positions along with his role in behind the striker so far this season and should have no trouble performing in any of those positions for the Gunners.
