England poised to make changes for third Test in Perth

England have promised to ring the changes ahead of the third Ashes Test Perth and that could spell good news for Yorkshire duo Tim Bresnan and Gary Ballance.

The tourists have been totally outplayed in the first two Tests of the series, losing by 381 runs in Brisbane and 218 runs at the Adelaide Oval – only the second time in history that England have been beaten by more than 200 runs in successive Tests.

And with the series on the line at the WACA Andy Flower has promised to make some tough selection decisions in a bid to turn around his side’s fortunes.

“We have taken some serious hits but we do have a squad full of people who are determined to turn the ship around, and that’s what we must do,” he said.

“I’m absolutely ready to make tough decisions. There will obviously be changes in Perth.”

Tim Bresnan is an obvious choice to come into the side and bolster an England seam attack which has looked lacklustre.

The Yorkshire all-rounder, who has recovered from a back injury to take his place in the Test squad, impressed in the England Performance Programme’s draw with Queensland 2^nd XI and his ability with both bat and ball will strengthen Alastair Cook’s side.

The 28-year-old took 11 wickets when he was brought into the England’s side for the last two Test matches of the last Ashes tour Down Under and the Yorkshireman is 3/1 to be his side’s top first innings wicket taker in Perth.

Boyd Rankin, Steven Finn and Chris Tremlett will also be vying for a place in England’s attack at a ground where pace bowling is king and all three are also 3/1 to top first innings wicket taker for Flowers’ charges.

The bowling attack is not England’s only worry with the batting line-up misfiring since the tour got underway.

And Gary Ballance, who hit a half-century in visitor’s warm-up match in Alice Springs, could be the beneficiary and make his Test debut in Western Australia.

The middle order batsman is 10/1 to help turn England’s fortunes around with the bat and top score when they take to the crease for the first time in the third Test.
