Dortmund v Leverkusen: Klopp’s men to send visitors packing

Published:

Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen go head-to-head in the Bundelsiga and both sides will be desperate for victory as they try to keep pace with league leaders Bayern Munich.

With Leverkusen three points ahead of the home side in second, third-placed Dortmund just cannot afford to drop points and history suggests they may be the team to side with, at odds of 4/7 with Ladbrokes, winning four of the last five meetings between the sides.

But Sami Hyypia’s side are in excellent form themselves winning three successive matches since a shock defeat to bottom club Eintracht Braunschweig in early November. Bayer have won eight of their past 10 Bundesliga fixtures and they are 9/2 to taste victory at the Westfalenstadion.

The draw, a result that would suit neither of the sides in their bid to wrestle the title from Pep Guardiola’s Bayern, is priced up at 3/1.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side’s form has been strong in recent weeks with Die Schwarzgelben winning three successive matches in all competitions since suffering damaging defeats to both Wolfsburg and rivals Munich.

And with last season’s European Cup runners-up odds-on in the match betting market it might be wise to look elsewhere for some value so back the 2011-12 champions to be winning at half-time and full-time at 6/5.

In this fixture last year Dortmund raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Jakub Błaszczykowski and Mats Hummels to lead at the break, with striker Robert Lewandowski rounding off proceedings for a 3-0 win by the time the final whistle sounded.

In last season’s corresponding fixture at the Bay Arena, Klopp’s men raced into a 2-0 lead at the interval but Leverkusen hit back before Lewandowski fired home to bring in another Dortmund win.

And it’s not just in fixtures against Bayer where Dortmund tend to lead at the interval and go onto win the game. In two their last three in all competitions BVB have made fast starts to lead at the break and then go on to win the match.

As they say everything comes in three so back Dortmund to be winning at both half-time and full-time for a profitable evening.
