Back Britain all the way with our Europa League treble

Published:

The three teams flying the British flag in the Europa League can navigate their way to the knock-out stages of the competition if victorious  and our treble backs them to do just that at odds of nearly 5/1.

Backing Swansea, Wigan and Tottenham to all win returns £57.60 from a £10 stake and would see all three into the next phase of the tournament.

Swansea to beat St Gallen @ 21/20

Swansea’s fate is in their own hands and while they have won just once away from the Liberty Stadium in this year’s Europa League, Michael Laudrup’s men will be confident of getting the job done in Switzerland.

St Gallen have lost four in a row in Europe and three of their last five in all competitions, while the Swans have the added incentive of knowing that a win will guarantee a place in the next round.

Swansea have bounced back from successive domestic defeats with four points from their last two outings, so expect a comfortable victory for the Welsh side against a home team that has conceded 13 goals in five games thus far.

Wigan to beat Maribor @ 13/10

That Wigan go into this tie as favourites shows the level of opposition they are facing.

The Latics are languishing in mid-table  in England’s second tier and have now lost five games in a row, last tasting success in early November.

However, the Slovenians have won just one of their last 10 in Europe and aren’t faring much better domestically, where they have one won of their last four.

Mathematically the hosts could still qualify from Group D but new Wigan boss Uwe Rösler will use the 3-1 win in the reverse fixture to remind his players of that winning feeling.

Tottenham to beat Anzhi @ 2/9

Unbeaten Spurs are already safely through as winners of Group K and with Anzhi also assured of a knockout berth there is a risk that neither side will turn up.

However, Lilywhites boss Andre Villas-Boas will be keen to extend his side’s seven-match European win-streak and will take confidence from the Russian outfit’s woeful away record.

Anzhi have lost on all three of their previous trips to Britain – being beaten by Newcastle, Liverpool and Rangers – and have tasted success just once in 16 matches on the road.

Spurs have lost just two of their last 12 at White Hart Lane and will improve that record against a side without a win in five.
