Austrians can enjoy good night in Vienna against Zenit
Austria Vienna’s European campaign might be over but the hosts can sign-off with victory when they face Zenit St. Petersburg in Group G’s final round of games.
Flanked by selections of Atletico Madrid and Schalke, our Champions League treble pays a huge £206.94 from a £10 stake with Ladbrokes.
The home side have already bettered their previous best points haul in Europe’s premier competition.
And while two points from their last five Champions League games might not look too impressive, one of those was claimed in a 0-0 draw with their Russian visitors.
Zenit’s recent 2-1 victory over domestic minnows Ural was their sole success in their previous eight outings and Luciano Spalletti’s side could be vulnerable here.
Without the pressure of anything to play for Die Vielchen can relax in front of their own fans and the free-scoring Austrians might be difficult to contain having notched 11 goals in their last five games.
Porto know only a victory will offer them hope of progressing to the knock-out stage but in Atletico Madrid they’ll be taking on opponents who’ve been victorious in 16 of their last 19 fixtures in all competitions.
Atletico ran out 2-1 winners in the pair’s previous meeting in Portugal and are unbeaten in their last 10 matches at home, registering seven clean sheets during that sequence.
And with only three Champions League goals conceded, the visitor’s goal-shy attack may struggle to penetrate such a solid defence after managing to find the back of the net just four times in Europe this season.
For all of their fine efforts so far in Group E, including home and away victories over Chelsea, Basel’s Champions League adventure could come to an end if beaten by Schalke at the Veltins Arena.
The omens aren’t good for the Swiss side with a 1-0 defeat in their reverse fixture and a poor record against Bundesliga teams.
Just three wins in their last 14 European games against German outfits is a poor return and Murat Yakin’s team’s form has stalled of late with four draws in their last five contests.
Schalke need all three points to ensure they remain in the competition and they have the pedigree to suggest they’ll be make the last 16 for a fourth successive time.
