Arsenal desperate for another win to nil instalment at West Ham

Arsenal’s goalless draw with Chelsea was their third failure this season to beat a fellow Champions League qualifier from the previous campaign, calling their title credentials into further question.

The stalemate at the Emirates was also the third straight game Arsene Wenger’s men failed to win and saw them drift out to odds of 4/1 to win the Premier League title. Following this dearth of victories, the north Londoners simply must return to winning ways at West Ham, where they’re priced up at 8/13 to do so.

The relegation-threatened hosts are 4/1 shots for three equally-vital points, with shared spoils on offer at 3/1.

Recent meetings unquestionably favour the visitors here, with Arsenal unbeaten in 11 straight contests with this cross-London adversary. Last term they scored a total of eight goals against them, conceding just two in their pair of league clashes.

Prior to these two sullied sheets, the Gunners had recorded seven shut outs in nine against West Ham and before Manchester City decimated their defence in their previous road game, Arsenal comfortably held the best away defence in the top flight this season, shipping just five up until City smashed six past them at the Etihad.

All of these factors conspire to make the away team’s odds of 13/10 to prevent Sam Allardyce’s side finding the net well worth taking on, especially when you consider that the Irons have failed to score in five of their last nine league outings. Only three top tier teams have mustered fewer goals than their 14 strikes thus far.

With Arsenal desperate for a win, though, a mere clean sheet will not be enough. Collecting three points in combination with an unblemished half of the score sheet pays out at 17/10 and it should come under serious consideration.

The Hammers come into the game having suffered defeat in five of their last seven, failing to score in two of these losses and, in six of the previous seven in which they’ve failed to score against Arsenal, they’ve been bested.
