Villas-Boas odds-on to be next Premier League boss to go

Published:

Losing the dressing room is almost the point of no return for a manager wishing to improve the fortunes of his team and reports that Andre Villas-Boas has fallen out with members of his playing staff, must be a leading reason as to why he is now odds-on to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.

Three games without a Premier League goal and only nine across 12 top-flight games this season will not be helping Villas-Boas’ cause either, with Tottenham slipping from second in the standings in early October to ninth now, after taking just one point from a possible nine.

This is despite over £100m being spent on new signings during the summer, which included three separate instances of the club’s transfer record being broken.

Alongside the lack of goals, there is a lack of entertainment for supporters to enjoy, with the ‘glory, glory’ traditions of the 1960s being replaced by a team with a priority on defensive discipline and the acceptance of a cagey 1-0 victory.

Defender Jan Vertonghen has attempted to quiet the situation by denying any rifts, following reported comments from AVB that his players should be ashamed of themselves after the latest 6-0 mauling at Manchester City.

But, this has not prevented Villas-Boas sliding at an alarming rate from a double-figure price into 4/6 to be the next Premier League manager looking for a new job.

Home defeats to West Ham and Newcastle are not results that anyone associated with the club will be content with either and cold water has now been thrown on initial optimism that Spurs would achieve their minimum target this season of breaking back into the Premier League’s top four.

A Spurs top-four finish has now drifted to 10/3 and it remains to be seen if Villas-Boas will have the opportunity to turn things around, with Tromso up next in the Europa League, before a mammoth Premier League clash with Manchester United at White Hart Lane.
