Tromso v Tottenham: Spurs to find solace in commanding Euro win

Published:

Never will the Europa League have bought such relief to those of a Lilywhites persuasion as Tottenham have the perfect opportunity to wash away the stains of that 6-0 defeat to Manchester City by taking it all out on Tromso.

Tottenham may be struggling in the Premier League right now, but at least in Europe they have an avenue of escape and the Londoners have been fully dominant in Group K, winning four-from-four thus far.

In fact, the level of opposition such as Tromso – freshly relegated from the Norwegian top-flight – makes a bit of a mockery of this stage of the competition.

Still, Andre Villas-Boas’ side deserve credit for remaining focused and dispatching all-comers with efficiency and their 4/11 to win in the icy surrounds of Tromso should be included in any Europa League accumulator.

In their four games so far, which included a potential banana skin of a trip to Anzhi, Tottenham have scored nine goals and only conceded one.

Tromso were beaten 3-0 at White Hart Lane and given the onus on a Spurs reaction, backing the Londoners to at least record another win to nil seems a good place to start at 1/1.

Both of Spurs’ previous away trips produced the same 2-0 scoreline and punters could probably do worse than taking a healthy slice of the 13/5 on offer in the coupled correct score market for either the 2-0 or 3-0 away win.

Where AVB’s tinkering in the Premier League has failed to find a goal-scoring formula, the Europa League has provided no such obstacle, so the 13/8 on over 2.5 goals Tottenham goals looks another potentially lucrative source.

Interestingly, Jermain Defoe has been left behind, though it could be worth taking the plump-looking 9/2 on Roberto Soldado grabbing the opener in his absence.
