Superman vows to KO Bellew inside four rounds
Published:Adonis Stevenson has vowed to knock out Tony Bellew when the pair clash for the WBC light-heavyweight championship in Quebec City.
The Haiti-born Canadian champion, who won the famous green and gold belt with a stunning 76-second knockout of Chad Dawson, has made the bold prediction he will finish the job against Evertonian Bellew
“Tony, Tony, Tony,” he said to Bellew.
“I know you are dreaming of being a world champion but now you are fighting THE world champion. And you will see that you have never fought a man – a superman – like me before.
“I can tell you one thing son, you are going to learn that I will knock you out cold. I will knock you out.”
There can be no doubts about how hard Stevenson punches. The hard-hitting southpaw has a proven KO record, winning 19 of his 22 wins inside 12 rounds.
‘Superman’ proved it once again when stopping Tavoris Cloud in his first title defence back in September. That victory, and the Dawson KO, has catapulted the WBC title holder to new heights and another dominant display over the Bomber would lead to potential unification fights against Sergey Kovalev, who ended Nathan Cleverly’s reign as WBO champion, or the legendary Bernard Hopkins.
But first he has to overcome the challenge of Bellew, who is not just in Canada to make up the numbers.
The Liverpool fighter is bidding to become Britain’s fifth current world champion and will not give up without a fight.
It would be wise to oppose Stevenson’s bold prediction of an early stoppage but back the champ, at 1/2, to catch up with his opponent in the later rounds and claim his 10th successive stoppage victory.
