Sunderland v Man City: Hosts to win by one goal must be considered

Published:

Not many will be giving Sunderland much of a chance of securing the three points against a Manchester City that have scored 12 goals in winning their last two games, but the value at the Stadium of Light may well lie with the hosts.

It is worth pointing out that Gus Poyet has won both home games in charge since taking over as boss, beating Newcastle and Southampton 2-1.

Given that Sunderland have beaten Man City 1-0 on their last three visits to the Stadium of Light also, a few bets could offer some appeal.

A Sunderland triumph is priced at 13/2, with 9/1 a potentially profitable price that they win by any one-goal margin. Man City’s three away defeats already this season against Cardiff, Chelsea and Aston Villa have all been by a single-goal margin.

Furthermore, the injury to David Silva is a big blow to the visitors and they have not won any of the four away games this season that the Spaniard hasn’t started.

Silva is by far and away the club’s most creative influence, laying on an average close to four chances a game in the Premier League this season. Without him, this will ramp up the pressure on Sergio Aguero.

The Premier League’s player of the month for October has scored seven goals across his last five top-flight outings and is 4/6 to be on target at any time in the 90 minutes at Sunderland.

Manchester City’s odds to beat Sunderland are 2/5, but the most lucrative bet on the visitors may prove to be the 6/5 that the second period is their highest-scoring half.

All of the last four goals Sunderland have conceded at home across three games have been after half-time, while Man City’s highest-scoring half has been the second in their past two road trips.
