SuBo one half of unlikely duo aiming for Christmas number one

Scottish singer Susan Boyle is set to release a charity single ‘duet’ with the late Elvis Presley, and  the news has prompted Ladbrokes to offer odds of 5/1 for the release to reach the coveted Christmas number one slot.

Boyle’s take on Elvis’ 1971 Christmas hit ‘O Come, All Ye Faithful’ will be a popular festive choice, especially as the proceeds will be going to the Save the Children charity for which ‘SuBo’ is an ambassador.

Digital technology has been utilised to create a black and white video of the Hound Dog singer with Boyle and children involved with the charity’s Fast programme at a Glasgow primary school.

The Britain’s Got Talent sensation has already enjoyed a meteoric, if unexpected, rise to fame and claiming a Christmas number one would be another remarkable chapter in her career.

And while winners of The X Factor have earned the accolade five times in the last eight years, there have been notable acts who’ve successfully challenged that dominance.

The most recent of those was the 2012 single ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’, a star-studded collaboration by The Justice Collective to raise funds for the families of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster.

The Military Wives’ release, ‘Wherever We Are’, preceded that success with Boyle and Elvis potentially set to clinch a hat-trick of charity number ones.

However, current X Factor contestant and 3/1 market leader Tamera Foster could prove difficult to dislodge.

But even the hit show’s creator and music mogul Simon Cowell has been quick to endorse the woman he helped shoot to worldwide acclaim.

Cowell sent a recorded video message to the star in which he said: “No-one of all the people I’ve met has a bigger heart than you”.

And given the broad appeal she enjoys it would be no surprise to see Susan Boyle (and Elvis) topping the proverbial Christmas tree come late December.
