Solskjaer the big market mover to be next Middlesbrough manager
Published:If you think back to the summer that followed the 2011/12 Premier League season, there are sure to be some punters who remember that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was virtually nailed on to replace Alex McLeish at Aston Villa.
It was regarded as such a done deal, that Solskjaer was backed into 1/10 to take over at Villa Park at one point, but he eventually pulled out of the running because of family reasons, despite Norwegian club Molde giving their permission to discuss the opportunity.
Solskjaer has now spent exactly three years in charge of Molde, guiding them to successive Tippeligaen league titles. Although they are certain not to even make the top three in the ongoing campaign.
This may tempt Solskjaer that this is the time for a new challenge and he has been the big market mover in the next Middlesbrough manager betting, shortening substantially to 3/1.
However, when playing at Manchester United it was widely regarded that Solskjaer put the club before his personal ambitions and the same could be true now with his family.
Molde is only about an hour away from Solskjaer’s family home and alongside whether Middlesbrough could afford him, there is the question of whether he would want to move his wife and three children across Europe.
If he was unprepared to do this for an opportunity at Premier League management, it has to be doubtful that he would to take charge in the Championship.
After former Boro striker Fabrizio Ravanelli was sacked from his previous job in France with Ajaccio, he was also backed for the Riverside hotseat. He currently sits alongside Solskjaer at 3/1.
