Real Sociedad v Man Utd: Goals on the menu for both sides

| 05.11.2013

The 1-0 scoreline at Old Trafford was not a true reflection of the open nature of Manchester United’s victory over Real Sociedad and with both sides having found their stride on the domestic front in the intervening fixtures; expect goals at either end in Spain.

Real Sociedad put on a decent show in Manchester, but lacked conviction in the final third and ultimately could have lost by three or four if United had shown less mercy in front of goal.

Well, the Spaniards have certainly located their scoring shoes in their three La Liga games since.

Sociedad have fired in 10, which includes two emphatic home wins without conceding, where Osasuna were on the end of a 5-0 thrashing in the game leading up to this one.

And when you consider David Moyes’ side have replicated this free-scoring approach by matching that exact tally in their last three domestic outings, the 8/11 on both teams scoring or the 9/4 on over 3.5 total goals look like very promising bets.

While the final result is a hard one to predict – reflected by odds of 2/1 for the hosts and 11/8 for the visitors – sticking with the theme of goals looks the best path towards profit at the Anoeta Stadium in San Sebastian.

Further defensive injuries are an area of concern for Moyes, who lost Rafael and Jonny Evans in the 3-1 victory against Fulham, though Nemanja Vidic is hoping to be fit.

One player United’s backline will have to pay meticulous attention to is Sociedad’s French midfielder Antoine Griezmann, who is in the midst of a goal-scoring gold rush for the Spaniards – having notched five in his last three starts.

The 22-year is a generous-looking 5/2 shot to add to his tally anytime in the 90 minutes, while Robin van Persie’s own return to form with three-in-three, makes the Dutchman’s odds of 9/2 to score first another to consider.
