Real Madrid midfielder Khedira a target for English clubs

Real Madrid midfielder and German international Sami Khedira’s future is once again in doubt after he was left out of Real Madrid’s squad for the 3-2 victory at Rayo Vallecano.

Khedira, who moved to the Bernabeu from Stuttgart following a successful World Cup in 2010, has featured regularly for Madrid since signing but voiced his dissatisfactions earlier in the season.

He told Kicker magazine: “I feel insulted by the Spanish press, I will never be one of their favourite sons.

“I began the season on the bench and once again I’ve been made a scapegoat. They don’t value me, even when I play well.

“I’m not Spanish, I didn’t cost a lot and I’m a disciple of Mourinho.”

And it is Jose Mourinho who is one of the favourites to sign Khedira, with reports claiming Chelsea will sign him ‘at any cost’. But, the Blues already have a number of key central midfielders including Michael Essien, Ramires and Frank Lampard and may not be able to offer the German regular first-team action.

Meanwhile, Premier League rivals Manchester City are also reportedly interested in the midfielder and with Manuel Pellegrini already signing Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo from Spain, it wouldn’t be altogether unlikely that he adds to that list in January.

If the interest of financial heavyweights City and Chelsea wasn’t enough, Manchester United are also rumoured to be keeping tabs on the 27-year-old. According to ESPN, David Moyes sent assistant coach Phil Neville to Spain to watch him in Real Madrid’s 7-3 victory over Sevilla recently.

But with over a year left on his contract, it will almost definitely take a bid in excess of €40m to prize Sami Khedira away from the Bernabeu in January.
