Preston and Peterborough pick of the bankers in League One Acca

Published:

This weekend’s League One treble is playing it safe with a trio of bankable games tipping form sides from the top-half of the table against those staring down into the oblivion that is League Two.

Available at odds of just over 3/1, backing this threesome to deliver the goods, as expected, could earn you a not-too-shabby return of £42.78.

Peterborough to beat Stevenage @ 8/15

The Posh may have been off the boil in League One over the past couple of weeks, but London Road remains something of a stronghold for Darren Ferguson’s side.

Peterborough have lost just one of their last eight competitive games at home, with that solitary defeat coming to second-placed Leyton Orient and they head into this game looking for their third straight victory as hosts.

Meanwhile, Stevenage’s mini-renaissance in the league came to an end with a 3-0 thumping at the hands of Rotherham and with Boro losing four of their last five on the road another defeat looks imminent.

Preston to beat Colchester @ 8/13

Preston’s 1-0 away victory over Leyton Orient was a signal of intent from Simon Grayson’s side, coming off the back of a 6-0 win over non-league Barnet, and the Lilywhites will be in confident mood when lowly Colchester come to Deepdale.

PNE are unbeaten in six competitive games and have lost just one of their last 15 home fixtures in League One. That formidable record could see them through against a Colchester team that has failed to pick up three points in eight away fixtures in the division.

Three years ago Preston hammered the U’s 7-0 in an FA Cup tie at Deepdale and given the current gulf between the teams, a high-scoring win could be on the cards again here.

Rotherham to beat Carlisle @ 8/11

The Millers reasserted their play-off credentials with a 3-0 away win over Stevenage last time out but they will need to build on that result against an out-of-form Carlisle if that result is to count for anything.

Rotherham are unbeaten in three at New York Stadium and manager Steve Evans will be confident of extending that run against a Carlisle side who narrowly avoided FA Cup embarrassment with a 2-1 win over non-league Boreham Wood courtesy of a 95th minute winner from Mark Beck.

Prior to that result, the Cumbrians had gone six games without a victory in all competitions and with an away record that has seen them pick up three points from just one of their last four played on the road, the hosts will fancy their chances.
