Peterborough can return to league form at Walsall

Published:

Peterborough United return to league action determined to recover from consecutive defeats, after re-discovering their defensive solidity in the cup.

The Posh went 535 minutes of league football without conceding, including five clean sheets on the bounce and four wins, before losing to Colchester and promotion rivals Leyton Orient.

Since then they’ve picked up two crucial cup wins without conceding and will be confident of returning to winning ways on their trip to Walsall.

The Saddlers have won more games away than at home this season and have the league’s joint worst record in their last five home games.

Peterborough are 15/8 for a win that would put them within three points of an automatic promotion place while you can back Walsall at 13/10 to grab three points and move within one point of a play-off spot.

Dean Smith’s side are the lowest scorers in League One, managing just seven goals so far this season. That’s the same return as Peterborough striker Britt Assombalonga on his own.

The Congolese forward has ended a nine-game drought by scoring the opening goal in Peterborough’s last two games. He’s 9/2 to make it three in a row and break the deadlock against Walsall.

Darren Ferguson has strengthened his attack further in the last few days with the signing of Kyle Vassell from Bishop’s Strotford, with the transfer window not applying to non-league clubs.

Vassell was averaging a goal a game this season in the Conference South and will be looking to prove his worth at this level with a debut goal. You can get 2/1 that he’ll have a dream start to life at London Road by scoring in this game.
