The Hasbro-made furry friend is the 1/2 favourite to generate the most sales this festive season, meaning parents may see any seasonal cheer washed away by hours spent listening to the Owl-like robot reel off its ‘unique’ brand of incomprehensible Furby-speak.
First introduced into the public consciousness way back in 1998, the Furby appears to be the toy craze that just won’t die.
This latest incarnation, the Furby Boom, offers youngsters a brand new way to enjoy cuddles and conversation with the robot pet via a special app that allows users to collect digital eggs that then hatch into yet more virtual Furbies.
So families everywhere had best get used to an imaginative vocabulary of Furbyisms that include the words “doo”, “boo” and the rather surprising “yoo” as they tuck into a turkey dinner with all the trimmings.
Robotic pets certainly seem to be the order of the day this December, with the Teksta Robotic Puppy, the current second favourite to be the biggest seller at 6/1, and this could prove popular among parents keen to avoid the kind of clean up and care associated with a real dog.

A few old classics remain in the running, with the revised version of the Monopoly Empire backed at 50/1 to have parents everywhere breaking the bank this festive season.
