McBusted single will McFly off the shelves
Ladbrokes are backing the newly-formed McBusted to put the super back into supergroup next year and score a big UK number one hit in 2014.
The band, consisting of McFly foursome Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd alongside Busted buddies James Bourne and Matt Willis, announced their intentions to head out on a UK arena tour today.
And given the impressive track record of success enjoyed by both groups back in their heyday, odds of 4/5 on them reaching the top of the UK singles charts in 2014 are not to be scoffed at.
All in all the supergroup have a combined total of 11 UK number ones with McFly contributing seven of the chart-topping total with Busted bringing four to the table.
Despite this, some sceptics will point to the fact that the most recent of these came in 2007 when the ‘Fly reached the UK summit with the double A side smash Baby’s Coming Back / Transylvania.
But such a viewpoint fails to take into account the furore that will surround any form of Busted comeback, with the original pop rock chart-toppers previously going out at the top, having never had a single outside the UK top 3.
And while the same cannot be said of McFly, in lead songwriter Fletcher they have someone who remains a popular figure in the social media stratosphere, having made headlines after his wedding speech to new wife Giovanna Falcone reached 11 million views of YouTube.
More importantly still, the 28-year-old has previously struck up an excellent songwriting rapport with Busted duo Willis and Bourne, having co-written some of their biggest hits including “Crashed the Wedding” and “Thunderbirds”.
Throw in former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and Strictly Come Dancing winners Poynter and Judd and we could even see the kind of sustained success enjoyed by Take That, with odds of 5/1 offered for those backing McBusted to have a UK Number One album before the close of 2014.
And with Charlie Simpson, the previous root cause of Busted’s original split in January 2005, distancing himself from the project, odds of 4/1 that McBusted will split by the end of next year look generous to say the least.
