Luis Suarez to outscore his rivals and finish top of the charts
Published:Suarez was on course for the title of top Premier League goalscorer last season before his 10-match ban derailed those ambitions. That was then, but now the Uruguayan has christened his belated start to the season with eight goals in six appearances and can now be backed to scoop this accolade at 2/1
Suarez has started the season in fine form and is joint top of the goal scorer’s chart with eight goals alongside Sergio Aguero and teammate Daniel Sturridge, who can be found at 5/1 and 7/1 respectively.
However, it has taken Sturridge four games more than Suarez to reach the same goals total, indicating that Suarez is the more likely scorer at Liverpool.
Aguero has the ability to rival Suarez all the way, but it remains to be seen in he can stay free of injury for the rest of the season, having suffered numerous problems last year.
Suarez has a ruthless edge to his game which sees him capitalise on weaker opposition and has scored more hat-tricks this calendar year than any other player.
Last year’s winner, Robin van Persie, is also well in contention at 9/2 despite a sluggish start to the season by his Manchester United side. Van Persie aided his cause greatly with that headed winner against Arsenal, taking him to within one goal of the three joint leaders and he will be gunning to be the first man since Thierry Henry to win the accolade for a third consecutive season.
An interesting outside bet comes in the form of Newcastle’s Loic Remy who looks good value at 20/1 The Frenchman has settled in perfectly on Tyneside and has grabbed seven goals in nine appearances.
Nobody playing for a team which has finished the season outside the top six has won this title since Kevin Phillips at Sunderland in 1999/2000, suggesting it could be difficult for Remy to maintain his current rate though.
The last 13 winners have all come from one of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea but with City’s Aguero and the Liverpool duo of Suarez and Sturridge currently leading the way this looks set to change.
