Leverkusen v Man Utd: Sam injury gives visitors glimmer of hope
Published:On the face of it, few arguments can be made as to why 11/8 is not a highly attractive price on Bayer Leverkusen beating Manchester United in Group A to secure their progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
After all, not only have the Germans won eight on the bounce at home in the group stages of the competition, but they have also been fairly formidable on their own patch in all competitions this season.
Leverkusen have played nine times at the BayArena, with eight of these ending in victory and the same number witnessing the team scoring at least two goals.
The one exception was a 1-1 draw with the best team in Europe, Bayern Munich.
Therefore, not only does the Leverkusen win price look appetising, so does the 23/20 that they score over 1.5 goals against Man Utd.
The Premier League champions are 19/10 to leave Germany with three points and 12/5 to secure the draw that will keep them on top of Group A. Their chances of either positive result have been given a timely boost by the absence of Sidney Sam.
Sam has arguably been Leverkusen’s best player this season and certainly one of their most deadly attackers. He leads the club’s statistics in terms of assists, key passes per game and successful dribbles this season.
His thigh injury is a big blow to Leverkusen, but in South Korea’s Heung-Min Son, Sami Hyypia has another player more than capable of pulling the strings to get the best tune out of his side.
Son also netted a hat-trick in Leverkusen’s latest home victory over Hamburg and he holds some appeal at 9/4 to score in the 90 minutes.
