Henderson and Rodriguez look value picks to make plane to Rio

There are plenty of names toward the top of the betting to make England’s final 23-man squad for World Cup 2014 which are not offering anywhere near as much value as the likes of Jordan Henderson and Jay Rodriguez.

When you consider names such Aaron Lennon and Andy Carroll are as short as 6/4 and 7/4 respectively to make it into Roy Hodgson’s chosen party for Brazil then you know it’s time to look elsewhere for some value.

These are just two players out of many, who could get a mention, though having not featured for their country for months and in Carroll’s case not appearing once for his club West Ham this season, these prices seem skinnier than an indie kid’s jeans.

Scanning down the extensive list of potential plane-makers there are a few names that are screaming value, who could even start for England against Chile.

At 7/1, Liverpool midfielder Henderson will still not have won over all his critics, but he has been an ever present in the Reds Premier League line-up and his most recent performance against Fulham was full of confidence.

His versatility to play a number of roles within the midfield could well be his best weapon in the battle to make the plane, while if his club keep flourishing he will always be at the forefront of people’s minds.

Meanwhile, Southampton’s duo of Rodriguez at 8/1 and Adam Lallana 4/1 have a great chance to impress the England manager and the wider public at Wembley.

If the pair are anywhere near as good as they have been for Saints so far, expect these odds to tumble.
