Froch’s trainer dismisses the Groves challenge

Carl Froch’s long-time trainer Rober McCracken has dismissed George Groves’ chances of winning the WBA and IBF World Super Middleweight titles when the domestic rivals clash in Manchester on  23rd November.

Those who point to a Groves victory believe the young Londoner will outbox his opponent at the Phones4U Arena in just over three weeks time.

However, that view is not shared by the Cobra’s trainer McCracken.

“I’m not sure about this idea that George outboxes Carl,”  said the Team GB trainer.

“I’ve read a couple of things where Carl will stop him, but Groves will outbox him early. I don’t agree with that.

“If the Groves camp comes in with the idea of trying to outbox Carl, they’ll be in for a shock,” he added.

The Nottingham fighter is the overwhelming favourite to defend his belts at 1/4 with Ladbrokes, while the challenger, who is unbeaten in 19 fights, has been chalked up as the 3/1 underdog.

If  ‘Saint George’ can outbox ‘The Cobra’, the 6/1 on the challenger picking up a points decision looks a tempting bet.

But for Groves, it will be the first time he has shared the ring with a man with Froch’s power and ferocity and that should prove to be too much for the challenger.

With Froch’s ability to stand, trade and go to war with his opponents it would be very hard to back against a win for the champion by KO at 10/11 with Ladbrokes.
