Early British snowfall has punters dreaming of White Christmas
Published:As some northern areas of England witnessed their first sprinklings of snow before Remembrance Day, punters have reacted by backing more of the white stuff to fall at Christmas.
Unsurprisingly, cities in the north of England have proved most popular for the first few punters predicting festive snowfall, with Leeds (5/1), Manchester (4/1) and Newcastle (4/1) leading the way.
The English capital London is also deemed a 5/1 shot by Ladbrokes to experience some snow fall on December 25th.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “It might be early days, but we’re already seeing a sprinkling of White Christmas bets as the UK sees a sprinkling of snow.”
Meanwhile, the Scottish city of Dundee is afforded the favourite tag to see some snow on Jesus’ official birthday, as punters can back this eventuality at 7/2.
The last two official white Christmases in many parts of Britain were recorded in 2004 and then the ‘big freeze’ of 2009/10.
That bone-chilling winter of was one of thee coldest on record as Britain was gripped by icy winds and snow from Siberia, which saw treacherous festive travelling conditions all over the country.
There has certainly been a trend towards harsher winters in the last decade and this year’s sweltering summer has got many believing the UK will pay the price with another long and bitter winter.
Snows arriving as early as the first 10 days in November only serve to reinforce this theory, so the time to back a white Christmas in 2013 could well be now!
