Dortmund and Inter keen on Manchester City striker Dzeko

Ungratefully labelled a ‘super sub’ last season, Edin Dzeko has struggled to nail down a starting berth in two-and-a-half seasons at Manchester City, despite scoring regularly when called upon and this could lead to a January departure.

Dzeko has regularly bemoaned his lack of minutes in a City shirt and as the opportunity of a January move approaches, the Bosnian is likely to be tempted into switching allegiances by both Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan.

It’s no secret across the continent that Dortmund’s current line-leader, Robert Lewandowski, is off at the end of the season, with Bayern Munich the much-mooted destination.

Therefore, Jurgen Klopp and co have begun scouting replacements already and Dzeko seems an ideal candidate.

Not only does he have the physical attributes needed to spearhead the German club’s preferred 4-3-3 formation, but he has a proven track record of scoring goals in the Bundesliga at Wolfsburg.

The only real stumbling block could be that Dzeko faces the same dilemma at Dortmund of playing second fiddle to Lewandowski for the remainder of the campaign, while a reported £15m valuation by City is rumoured to be a little over the German club’s current estimations.

This factor could either lead to a pre-contract agreement for a summer move or potentially make a move to the San Siro a more attractive option for Dzeko.

Inter have relied quite heavily on 31-year-old Argentine centre-forward Rodrigo Palacio to grab the goals this season and although his compatriot Diego Milito is still to return from injury, he himself is no spring chicken at 34.

Also the Italians quite often operate a system which includes two strikers in it.

Meanwhile, City’s latest damaging away defeat in the Premier League still hasn’t seen them lose their joint favourites-tag for the title at 11/4.
