AVB to boost Spurs’ ranks after 6-0 City drubbing

Following the surprise 6-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City at the weekend any optimism surrounding Tottenham’s title hopes has all but died.

However, Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas will attempt to resurrect his side’s dwindling bid by further boosting his squad in January.

After flogging Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for a world record fee in the summer AVB invested in a manner that saw the north Londoners mentioned as genuine title contenders in some circles.

But, after 12 games, Tottenham sit in eighth place, eight points behind leaders and arch rivals Arsenal and priced at 66/1 to end their 53-year wait for a league title.

One player rumoured to be on his way to White Hart Lane, in a bid to turn things around, is Sevilla’s Diego Perotti.

The Argentinean winger was heavily linked with Spurs in the summer and has breathed new life into the move after revealing his desire to play in the Premier League.

The highly-rated wide man was expected to shine following the departure of Jesus Navas to City but niggling injuries and stuttering form have plagued his season so far.

Now though, the 25-year-old has vowed to play his way back into form in order to realise his dream of a move to England, telling the Spanish media: “I’ve not been playing well recently and I need to find my best form, but something could happen.

“A transfer is definitely possible in the winter market.”

However, while the Sevilla midfielder has bags of potential, Spurs already boast a wealth of talent in the middle of the park and after bagging just nine goals in the league so far AVB could be better served turning his attention to available strikers.

Alexandre Pato is rumoured to be unhappy at Corinthians due to a lack of backing by the board and fans of the Brazilian outfit, while Stephan El Shaarawy has been pushed down the pecking order by Italian giants AC Milan.

With Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe likely to be moving on in January, either one of these proven strikers could provide Spurs with the goals needed to get their season back on track.
