Airforce Diva can land the spoils without drama in St Leger

Wimbledon hosts the St. Leger and Puppy Derby with a preview of both key races below.

William Hill St. Leger (21:19)

Seven-time Derby winning trainer Charlie Lister is mob-handed for the St. Leger at Wimbledon with the perennial champion trainer boasting four runners for the 687m staying showpiece.

Spearheading Lister’s charge for a third St. Leger triumph is Farloe Tango who won his last five races before falling to a 1 ½ length defeat of his re-opposing kennelmate Airforce Diva in the semi-finals last week. The 5/4 favourite produced two of the best performances of the competition in the early rounds and will be backed to avenge his shock recent defeat.

At 3/1, Airforce Diva will have plenty of supporters to confirm her dominance over the jolly and rack up a second career hat-trick. The handler’s third main hope is Regency winner Fear Emoski who turned over the leading danger from outside the Lister yard, Droopys Posh in her semi-final. A price of 6/1 about the prolific winner who racked up an eight-timer earlier in the year could also prove to be generous.

The aforementioned Droopys Posh from Seamus Cahill’s kennels is priced at 9/2 but will have to improve to beat Lister’s third string let alone the main protagonist.

Bringing up the rear of the betting is the Dean Childs-trained Musical Gaga, currently 8/1. Unfortunately for the outsider she has lost to three of the opposition in decisive fashion in her last five races and there would need to be all sorts of drama to enable her to be in front at the line.

At the prices available it’s impossible not to go with Airforce Diva who beat the market-leader fair and square last time.

RFS Puppy Derby Final (21:04)

Charlie Lister is without a runner in the Puppy Derby but Seamus Cahill arrives with the leading chance courtesy of the high class Chicago. A decisive winner of his last two races against the re-opposing Droops Dave and King Kane sets the standard and the 11/10 that Cahill further cements his position in the big leagues looks attractive.

The only danger appears to be Droopys London who kicks off a huge night for the Dean Childs team. Emphatic victories by an aggregate of 14 ½ lengths in his last two contests will have won him many admirers but whether the required extra improvement is attainable remains to be seen.
