Two is Newcastle’s magic number as they pay Sunderland a visit
Newcastle travel to their arch rivals Sunderland in their next league fixture, hoping to inflict yet more misery on the bottom side in their own backyard, and if they can keep up their habit of notching exactly twice per game, then they should get their wish.
It’s no great shock to learn that the team which lies bottom of the Premier League table have endured a tough time finding the opposition net.
Only five times have the Black Cats scored in the top-flight this season, drawing blanks against Fulham, West Brom and most recently shipping four without reply in a limp display at Swansea – the first game in charge for new manager Gus Poyet.
Now, there is nothing like a Tyne/Wear derby over which to tear up the formbook, though Sunderland’s inability to score multiple times, stretches back three seasons in this fixture at the Stadium of Light also.
Meanwhile, the Magpies have only been prevented from hitting their customary two Premier League goals on the road by Manchester City this season – hitting two at Villa Park, Goodison Park and the Cardiff City Stadium.
Putting this theory into betting practice, the Magpies scoring over 1.5 goals at odds of 29/20 is particularly appealing, which should then be enough for the visitors to claim the bragging rights at 13/8.
Furthermore, punters can also double-up the bet by going in on the 7/4 that Alan Pardew’s side grab 2/3 goals for a seventh straight game in a row.
If looking for Newcastle players to find the net, then either Loic Remy at 7/4 or 4/1 shot Yohan Cabaye shouldn’t serve too badly, as the pair have been responsible for seven of the visitor’s last eight league goals.
