Toro Rosso’s emerging talents target Abu Dhabi points

Published:

Toro Rosso have found the Yas Marina Circuit a happy hunting ground since the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was introduced to the Formula One race calendar in 2009.

And their drivers, Jean-Eric Vernge and Daniel Ricciardo, are attractively priced to steer themselves to a points finish in this year’s edition.

In three of the four previous races held in the Emirate a Toro Rosso driver has finished in the top 10.

Red Bull-bound Ricciardo achieved that feat in last year’s event and the talented Australian is available at 5/4 to repeat the trick.

A recent point collected in India was the sixth time the departing Ricciardo has got on the scoreboard this season, with his total of 19 so far this campaign already surpassing last year’s previous high.

Team mate Vernge is 2/1 to cross the finishing line in the top 10 having done so in Malaysia, Monaco and Canada in 2013.

The Frenchman finished three places behind his fellow Toro Rosso driver in Dehli and was just two cars from securing a point in Abu Dhabi last year.

In terms of all-out glory, four-time champion Sebastian Vettel remains the 2/5 favourite to take the chequered flag for a third time at the circuit.

The German still managed to find his way onto the podium in the previous race held on Yas Island, even though he was forced to start from the pitlane following his disqualification from qualifying.

And it’ll be difficult to oppose Red Bull’s dominant force as he chases a seventh consecutive Grand Prix victory, with odds of 1/3 that a German wins this year’s race.

But it’s Ladbrokes’s points finish market that appears to represent the best value.

Given Toro Rosso’s previous breakthroughs in Abu Dhabi and the emergence of their young talent, backing Ricciardo and Vergne to shine appears to be a smart move.
