Sunderland win makes Palace nailed on to finish bottom

Fabio Borini’s strike against Newcastle may have secured three points for Sunderland – but it also looks like signalling the start of the Black Cats’ climb away from the Premier League basement.

Steven Fletcher and Borini both struck for Gus Poyet’s men as they dispatched the Magpies in their most assured display of the season so far.

However, while the victory is undoubtedly good news for the Black Cats’ chances of survival, their turn around in fortunes doesn’t bode well for managerless Crystal Palace.

The Eagles were once again disappointing in their 2-0 defeat against Arsenal on Saturday and it’s becoming increasingly obvious that the squad Ian Holloway assembled isn’t good enough to survive in the Premier League.

Palace have scored just twice in their last six league games and have been comfortably swept aside by Fulham and Swansea in that run.

While it’s not exactly great news for Palace fans, backing the south London side to finish bottom of the league looks like the best way for punters to cash in on their misery.

Meanwhile, Norwich slumped to another disappointing result in their goalless draw with Cardiff and their lack of goals (they’re currently averaging under one goal a game in the league) is starting to become a concern although they should have enough to pull away from the relegation zone despite their poor form in front of goal.

Palace are a tiny 1/12 to be relegated, Sunderland are 8/13 to be playing Championship football next season, while Norwich are still fancied to stay up at 3/1 to be relegated.
