Sideshow Bob or Edna fancied to be killed off in The Simpsons

Comments from the executive producer of The Simpsons, Al Jean, during a conference to promote the 25th season of America’s longest running animated series have indicated that one of the show’s “iconic” characters will soon meet their death.

Leading the betting to be given the boot is Abe ‘Grampa’ Simpson at 3/1, but given that voice actor Dan Castellaneta is responsible for numerous other characters including Homer Simpson, Krusty The Clown and Barney Gumble, this may be unlikely.

Instead, two others towards the forefront of the betting look much primer candidates to be killed off, with Sideshow Bob priced at 4/1 and Edna Krabappel available at 7/1.

Edna has her voice provided by Marcia Wallace and this is the only character that she provides a voice-over for.

Furthermore, Marcia is getting no younger now that she has reached the age of 70 and has surpassed over 100 episodes of The Simpsons.

The other hint dropped is that the voice actor for the character has won an Emmy previously, with Marcia gaining one for her performance as Edna in the episode of ‘Bart The Lover’ in 1992.

If Edna and Marcia are to continue, Sideshow Bob would look another logical choice and given his antics in the past, there are many probable ways he could be killed off.

After all, in the past, Sideshow Bob has attempted acts including blowing up his wife Selma Bouvier while on honeymoon, blowing up the whole of Springfield with a nuclear bomb and various attempts to kill Bart.

He is certainly an “iconic” character and bearing in mind he is not a regular, it wouldn’t be so difficult to lose him from the script.

One of the rare characters to have been previously killed off was Maude Flanders and punters wanting to take advantage of a bigger price could do worse than back her husband Ned at 50/1.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
