Sheriff Tiraspol v Tottenham: Adebayor to return with a bang

Despite coming in for some criticism this season, Roberto Soldado and Jermain Defoe can be reasonably pleased with their return of 12 goals in 19 appearances between them.

The pair might face some more competition for their place in the coming weeks though, as Emmanuel Adebayor is set to return to action against Sheriff, a game the Togo international is 1/1 to find the net in.

Despite being Moldova’s best side by a country mile – they have won the national league 12 times in the past 13 seasons – Sheriff have only kept two clean sheets at home in Europe in their last seven attempts.

Adebayor scored three times in the competition last year, including two in his last three matches, and finished last season with four goals in his last eight games in all competitions.

He has not been involved in first-team duties thus far this campaign for a variety of reasons, but certainly has the quality, if not always the application, to rival Defoe and Soldado for the lone striker spot.

The 29-year-old scored 18 times for Spurs two seasons ago and his hold-up play could be a better fit for Spurs’ line-up at times than the poaching style Defoe and Soldado bring to the table.

Sheriff have not lost any of their past seven home games in all competitions, with their 0-0 draw with Anzhi the only match they did not win.

However, their home record when not playing Moldovan opposition is less impressive, with three losses and two draws in the seven European matches they have played since the start of the 2012/13 season.

Spurs have won six out of seven away games without conceding this season and are 21/20 to win the game in Tiraspol to nil.

However, they drew all three away games in their Europa League group last season, including at Maribor and Panathinaikos, which makes the draw a tempting bet at 4/1.
