Rory McIlroy odds-on for no Majors in 2014 with Ladbrokes

As the news filters through that Rory McIlroy has called time on his long-term relationship with girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki, Ladbrokes are forecasting his poor form on the course to carry on regardless in 2014.

When McIlroy scooped his first Major at the tender age of 22 with victory in the 2011 US Open, the world of golf was unanimous in ushering in a new megastar of the sport, who would go on to win Majors for many years to come.

Nevertheless, despite adding to his US crown with a record-breaking eight-stroke USPGA victory the following year, the Ulsterman’s form has flatlined in 2013 and the distraction of McIlroy’s high-profile relationship with tennis golden girl Wozniacki has often been cited as a big factor.

Meanwhile, a shift of sponsor to sporting colossi Nike has also been blamed for a torrid season, in which McIlroy has posted just one top-10 PGA Tour finish.

And despite ditching Wozniacki, bookmakers Ladbrokes are not convinced he can rediscover his best form as easily as that.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “We’re not convinced Wozniacki is solely to blame for his dip in form and the odds suggest it’s going to take longer than a year to get back to winning ways.”

In a series of special bets releases by the firm, it’s 1/5 that McIlroy does not add to his Major tally in 2014, while it’s 8/1 that the Northern Irishman reclaims the world number one spot next year at any point.

Punters can get odds of 3/1 that he wins a single Major in 2014, 20/1 on McIlroy grabbing a pair, while 100/1 and 500/1 says that he manages to win three or the full-set respectively.

Finally, 14/1 is offered on a US Masters win in 2014 and it’s 20/1 he tops the PGA Tour Money List next year.
