Real Madrid to dangle Benzema carrot at Liverpool for Suarez

Published:

With Luis Suarez back to his nutmegging, screamer-scoring best for Liverpool and Real Madrid struggling to keep pace in La Liga, it’s no surprise to learn that the Spanish club are devising an inventive way to try and prise the Uruguayan away from Anfield in January.

No, Real Madrid are not plotting a £40,000,002 bid just to trump Arsenal’s ingenious effort in the summer, instead they are apparently plotting a high-profile part-exchange deal with Liverpool.

Whispers from Madrid suggest Florentino Perez and co will test Liverpool’s resolve over their star player by offering the Reds £20m plus their own French international striker Karim Benzema, in exchange for Suarez’ signature.

However, the carrot of Benzema, being hawked out in any potential deal may not be as edible for those at Liverpool as the money men at Real Madrid might hope.

According to sources at Los Merengues, they value Benzema at around the £20m mark, meaning in essence this deal still only holds a total valuation of Suarez around the £40m mark, something Arsenal found out was way under Liverpool’s selling price.

The way Suarez has performed since his reintegration into the team will only have solidified his current club’s position that the fee ought to be at least in excess of £60m, especially in light of what Madrid paid for Gareth Bale this summer.

Even if Suarez wishes to leave, Real Madrid are so far into debt at present, that funding another herculean transfer fee is simply out of the question unless they recoup a substantial amount in sales first.

Then there is the issue of whether or not Benzema would agree to move to Liverpool anyway.

Real Madrid appear to be a bit desperate to lift the mood at the Bernabeu, where Carlo Ancelotti’s charges are already 11 points off Barcelona’s pace, which is reflected in their 4/1 price to win back the Spanish title.
