Rami deal to prove AC Milan fans right with season claim
Published:Eight points from seven games to sit 12th in the early Serie A standings is hardly the start that AC Milan would have been aiming for and they are yet to beat a team currently above them in the table.
The Serie A title already looks out of the question with AC Milan’s odds of 33/1 to finish top, while Gianluca Vialli has indicated that it would be a miracle if the Rossoneri even managed to improve into the top three.
Supporters are at least retaining some humour through the club’s obvious struggles, singing in the latest defeat at Juventus “we won’t be relegated”.
Injuries have not helped their cause, but it is defensively where Milan have endured the most trouble, shipping 13 goals in their seven league encounters. Only bottom pair Bologna and Sassuolo have conceded more.
Therefore, news that Milan appear to be winning the battle to bring in Valencia outcast Adil Rami is promising, even if the French international will not be permitted to play for them until January.
The initial move is being set up to be on loan, with an offer of around €7m to be accepted next summer.
Rami and compatriot Philippe Mexes have not been the tightest defensive unit for France in the past and should they be paired together at Milan, they will have to work on their positioning in particular.
It may make sense in that case to partner Rami with Christian Zapata.
Meanwhile, reports also suggest that Milan will further boost their squad in January with another bargain signing, as they finally complete a deal for Keisuke Honda from CSKA Moscow.
Signing Honda should relieve some of the pressure on Robinho, who is being shouldered with most of the creative drive in the squad at present with Kaka and Stephan El Shaarawy both absent.
Honda is at his best dribbling at defenders and looking to prise open defences in little space and while Rami can have an impact defensively, the Japanese international can pull some strings at the other end.
