Norwich v Chelsea: Visitors to keep Canaries scoreless

Published:

With just four goals so far Norwich have the joint-worst attack in the Premier League, a record that appears to have little chance of improving with the visit of fifth-placed Chelsea this weekend.

Manager Chris Hughton invested heavily in refreshing his attacking talent this summer, with Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Gary Hooper and Johan Elmander all brought to East Anglia in a bid to improve on a total of just 41 league strikes in 2012-13.

Jose Mourinho’s side boast the league’s second best defence, with just three conceded to date, and come to Carrow Road after a 4-0 hammering of Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League in midweek.

Since the Canaries gained promotion to the Premier League in 2011 they have failed to score in this fixture, drawing in 2011-12 before losing to a solitary Juan Mata effort last term.

Chelsea are 31/20 to win to nil, and given that they have now conceded just once in their last four matches – while scoring nine times – they look well worth an investment here. The price of 27/10 for Mourinho’s men to win and under 2.5 goals scored in the Total Result market also looks like it will garner much attention.

Carrow Road hasn’t been a hotbed of goalmouth action under Hughton’s tenure, with two of the three league matches to have taken place there this season witnessing just one solitary strike. With this in mind, 13/2 for a 1-0 Chelsea victory certainly appeals.

With two such defensively minded managers at work it is difficult to envisage both teams finding the net, a 4/5 selection. Under 2.5 goals to be scored in the fixture can be taken at that same price, an outcome that has come to pass in all three of Chelsea’s away league matches this season.
