Man United eye January move for Everton’s Leighton Baines

| 28.10.2013

Manchester United will go back in for Everton defender Leighton Baines this January – and this time they’re prepared to splash the cash.

After a dire summer in the transfer market that saw United make just one major signing in Marouane Fellaini, David Moyes is preparing to go back to his former club with a £15 million offer for the England man.

The Daily Express believes that this time a move can be done with Everton chiefs prepared to allow Baines the biggest move of his career.

They also reckon that Everton have began scouting about for replacements, with Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand and Swansea City’s Ben Davies both on their radar.

However, whether they would be able to prise away Ashley Cole’s deputy from Stamford Bridge will be a big test, while Davies may not fancy the move north so early in his career when he is getting regular first team football for Michael Laudrup’s side.

Meanwhile, Moyes also looks set to send out Wilfried Zaha out on loan in January with the former Crystal Palace man unable to get in the United side ahead of his more experienced rivals.

Moyes said: “We have got big, big competition and there are a lot of players to give some playing time.

“We’ve not been able to do that with Wilf. If that continues then in January I will look at it.”

Elsewhere, the Mirror are reporting that Arsenal will try to add another midfielder to their seemingly endless roster of talent by making a January bid for West Brom’s Youssouf Mulumbu.

Arsene Wenger is keen to add cover for Mathieu Flamini who has been brilliant for the Gunners since his return to the club in the summer.
