Ladbrokes pay out twice on MOTM in Chelsea v Man City clash

Bookmakers Ladbrokes gave punters a real treat after Fernando Torres’ dramatic last-gasp strike prompted Sky pundit Gary Neville to change his mind over his choice of man of the match as Chelsea defeated Manchester City.

As Chelsea’s potential ‘title decider’ against City appeared to be heading towards a 1-1 draw in the closing stages, Sky’s co-commentator for the game Neville, opted to award Sergio Aguero the MOTM award for his goal-scoring display for the visiting side.

However, when Torres was gifted the winner by Joe Hart’s calamitous mix up with Matija Nastasic on the edge of the City penalty area, the former Manchester United right-back requested to change his decision and assign Chelsea’s number nine the award instead.

In response, Ladbrokes decided to honour punters who had booked either man in the market.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We’ve listened to Neville and Torres’ backers will be celebrating along with Chelsea fans tonight. Thanks to Torres’s goal his side are now favourites for the Premier League.”

As a result of that win over such a major rival for the Premier League title, Jose Mourinho’s Blues have now been installed as the 2/1 favourites to be crowned champions at the end of the season.

Torres can now be backed at 5/6 to score 10 or more goals in the remainder of the Premier League season while it’s 100/1 he becomes the top scorer in the division on the way to Chelsea securing the title.

Meanwhile, Torres is now available at the same odds of 5/6 to score over 9.5 or under 9.5 Premier League goals this season.

After a third loss on their travels in the league already this season, City have seen their title price slide to 9/4, Arsenal are at 9/2, with both Liverpool and Manchester United rated as 8/1 shots currently.
